2nd World Humanoid Robot Games open in Beijing

The second World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing on Saturday, bringing together 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries for a five-day competition showcasing advances in humanoid robotics, CGTN reported.

The event, held at the National Speed Skating Oval, has expanded significantly from last year's inaugural games, with the program featuring 51 events and 1,301 competitions across nine competition sessions.

The competition combines sporting events, artistic performances and challenges designed to demonstrate the practical applications of humanoid robots in real-world scenarios.

Of the 51 events, 30 are competitive sports, while another 21 focus on scenario-based challenges, according to the Chinese broadcaster.

The sporting competitions are designed to test robots' mobility, coordination, balance and ability to perform tasks in environments modeled on human activities.

The five-day games also provide an international platform for companies, research institutions and robotics teams to demonstrate technologies and compete in practical applications.

The second edition represents a major expansion from the inaugural games, which featured only three days and six competition sessions.

Meanwhile, a Chinese humanoid robot developed by Unitree reportedly reached a top speed of 12.66 meters per second (28.32 mph), surpassing Usain Bolt's 100-meter record pace of 12.42 meters per second (27.78 mph). The achievement highlights rapid advances in humanoid robot mobility and athletic performance.
