US President Donald Trump said he expected significant economic gains following the ceasefire with Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, describing the development as "a big day for World Peace" in a post on Truth Social.
"Big money will be made," Trump wrote, adding that Iran has "had enough" and that others also wanted an end to the conflict.
He said the United States would help ensure the resumption of shipping through the strait and that "lots of positive action" would follow.
The United States and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire and the reopening of the waterway shortly before the expiry of a deadline set by Trump. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a statement that shipping through the strait would resume.
Iran had effectively brought traffic through the strait to a near standstill with attacks and threats after the United States and Israel launched their military campaign on February 28.
Trump said Iran could now begin rebuilding, adding that US forces would remain in the region to "make sure that everything goes well."
"I feel confident that it will. Just like we are experiencing in the U.S., this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!!," he added.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad on Friday for talks aimed at reaching a conclusive agreement to end the conflict.
