Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk does not expect lasting stability in the Middle East, despite feeling relief over the agreement between the US and Iran on a ceasefire.
"Peace and even a temporary ceasefire are always better than war," he said at the start of a Cabinet meeting in Warsaw on Wednesday.
However, given the course of events so far, past experience and the words of the politicians involved in the conflict, he said he was "extremely cautious" in predicting that the situation would last for more than a few weeks.
Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that a calming of the situation in the Middle East is necessary not only with regard to the oil markets, but also with regard to Western civilization.
He said that this concept was based on peace, normality and respect for human life.
Just a few hours before the ceasefire agreement was reached, US President Donald Trump had threatened that "a whole civilization will die."
