US, Israel strikes against Iran violate international law, Chinese consul general says

China's consul general in Istanbul on Friday said US and Israeli strikes on Iran breach international law and could destabilize the region.

"It is in violation of international law and poses a direct threat to regional and global stability," Wei Xiaodong said at an event on China's 15th Five-Year Plan hosted by the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye.

China supports Türkiye's role in efforts to resume negotiations, he added.

"China and Türkiye enjoy sound communication, coordination and political mutual trust on major regional and international issues such as Iran and Gaza," he said.

He added that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed aligned positions on the Middle East during a recent phone call.

DEEPENING BILATERAL TIES

Wei said China's 15th Five-Year Plan offers new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

The plan aims to provide stability and promote further opening-up while supporting foreign trade and investment, he said.

He added that cooperation between China and Türkiye has helped strengthen Türkiye's industrial base and improve its export capacity.

Wei said both countries are at a key stage of economic transformation, with cooperation offering more opportunities than challenges.

Aydin Mistacoglu, head of DEIK's Türkiye-China Business Council, said bilateral relations are evolving beyond traditional trade toward a broader partnership in technology, energy and infrastructure.

"The combination of China's high-tech and investment power and Türkiye's dynamic manufacturing capacity not only contributes to the growth of our bilateral trade but also creates significant synergy in third markets," he said.

He added that the business council plans to expand engagement through trade fairs, delegation visits and networking initiatives.

"We believe that this mutual exchange among our businesspeople will contribute to the establishment of much deeper and more lasting bonds between our societies, going beyond our economic partnership," he said.
