The White House said Thursday that six Ukrainian children will return from Russia to their families in Ukraine, with first lady Melania Trump helping to expedite the reunifications.
"Reunifying children with their loved ones in this region of the world remains one of the most important global issues today.
"I am encouraged that both sides remain committed to ongoing cooperation, raising the safety and well-being of children above this abhorrent war," the first lady's office said in a statement.
A seventh Ukrainian child will be brought home to family members later this month, it added.
The first lady and her representative remain engaged in ongoing work with Russia and Ukraine to identify and reunify those individuals who have been displaced as a result of the ongoing war, according to the statement.
