The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, said Russia will soon begin scanning the Moon and start developing tools this year to study its internal structure.
Speaking at Russia's Federation Council, Bakanov stated that Russia is continuing to develop its lunar program with China, with plans to involve a total of 15 countries.
He noted that work on the Moon's structure will accelerate this year, saying: "We will scan it and complete the design of a lander that will collect lunar soil and transmit data back to Earth. In 2026, development of devices to study the Moon's internal structure will begin."
Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration signed a memorandum of understanding in 2021 to establish a joint research station on the Moon.
