NYC mayor says Iran war ‘should be opposed on every single ground’
NYC Councilman Zohran Mamdani opposes a war with Iran on moral, economic, and procedural grounds, citing the high cost to Americans facing an affordability crisis and past "disastrous" regime change wars.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday that a potential war with Iran "should be opposed on every single ground," citing both moral concerns and the economic burden on Americans.
Speaking in an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Mamdani criticized the financial cost of military action, saying it comes at a time when many Americans are facing a historic affordability crisis.
"I think we're seeing the fact that in the face of Americans facing a historic affordability crisis that we have the pursuit of something that has already cost $23 billion thus far — the kind of money that could transform working-class Americans' lives," he said, pointing to potential investments in health care, education and student debt relief.
"And all of that being thrown aside for the pursuit of yet another regime change war," he added.
Mamdani said a war with Iran should be opposed on "procedural," "moral" and "political" grounds, as well as for its economic impact.
He added that, despite his age, he remembers what he described as the "disastrous consequences of regime change wars."
