Drone hits US diplomatic support facility at Baghdad airport in Iraq

An explosive-laden drone struck a US diplomatic support facility at Baghdad International Airport early Wednesday, local media reported.

Shafaq News, citing a security source, said the drone exploded inside the US Diplomatic Support Center within the airport complex.

No injuries were reported.

The facility serves as a logistical and administrative hub for US diplomats and personnel in Iraq, supporting embassy operations in Baghdad.

Meanwhile, local sources told Anadolu that drones targeted a factory between Erbil and the town of Khabat in northern Iraq, sparking a fire.

The facility was hit at least twice, with an explosion reported before the fire broke out, the sources said.

Videos circulating on social media showed another drone striking the same site while the fire was still burning.

Media report also reported a drone strike on a house in Erbil on Tuesday, igniting a fire.

According to Erbil Govorner Omed Khoshnaw, more than more than 20 drones were shot down over the city overnight.

He said the projectiles were intercepted without causing any injuries or damage.

Local officials in Iraq's Kurdish region said that more than 500 drone and missile attacks have targeted northern Iraq, including the cities of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Dohuk and Halabja since the outbreak of war between Iran, the US and Israel in late February.

The US and Israel have maintained an air offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
