A non-military plane ventured into prohibited airspace in the vicinity of US President Joe Biden's residence in Delaware on Saturday, a spokesman for the US Secret Service said.

"Shortly after 2 p.m. (GMT1800) Saturday, a civilian aircraft violated restricted airspace north of Wilmington, Delaware," said Anthony Guglielmi on X.

"As a precaution, assets were scrambled to intercept and the civilian aircraft safely landed at a nearby airport," he added.

A fighter jet and a helicopter were dispatched to escort it out of the restricted airspace after the unauthorized aircraft was initially detected.

Guglielmi stated that an investigation is currently ongoing with collaboration between the US Secret Service and the Federal Aviation Administration.
