Police in the Russian Republic of Dagestan fired warning shots to disperse people protesting the mobilization of the army's reservists on Sunday, according to local activists.
In response to the draft order from President Vladimir Putin earlier this week, residents in the village of Endirey had blocked a street to deny access to authorities, according to civil rights website OVD-Info.
Videos show security forces firing shots into the air, as well as scuffles between residents and police.
The protest ensued in response to 110 men from the village being drafted to join the fight in Ukraine, according to local media reports.
Following last week's announcement of a partial mobilization in Russia's war against Ukraine, which began on February 24, there have been protests across the country.
Dagestan, mainly inhabited by ethnic Muslims, is among the Russian regions from which the most men are currently being drafted, according to observers.
Activists complain that members of minorities are particularly targeted during the mobilization campaign.
