Turkey's Erdoğan meets Qatari Emir in Doha to discuss bilateral ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Sea Palace in the capital Doha to exchange views over the latest political developments as well as the cooperation between two countries, according to the official sources.

Turkey's president met with the leader of Qatar on Wednesday as part of a single-day working visit to the Gulf country.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan landed at 2.20 p.m. local time (1120GMT) at Doha Airport, where he was welcomed by a Qatari delegation headed by Defense Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah and Turkey's Ambassador to Qatar Mehmet Mustafa Göksu.

The closed-door meeting, held at Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's Sea Palace, lasted for roughly an hour.



Accompanying the president were several top Turkish officials, including Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Kasapoğlu, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) head Hakan Fidan, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun and presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalın.

Earlier in the day, Erdoğan visited Kuwait, the first destination of his visit, to convey his condolences to recently sworn-in Emir Al-Sabah over the passing of his predecessor Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who recently died at age 91.
