Two people including an imam were wounded as a gunman opened fire on Thursday outside a mosque in northwestern France, according to French media reports.

The incident occurred at around 4:00 pm (1400 GMT) in front of the Mosque Sunna de Brest in the port city of Brest in Brittany, the reports said.

The imam identified as Rachid El Jay sustained injuries from four bullets while a worshipper was hit by two bullets, France 24 wrote, citing the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) and judicial sources.

According to the report, their conditions are not serious.

Meanwhile, the suspected shooter was found dead in an area some 10 kilometers from the mosque, according to a police source.

After the incident, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner ordered to increase security measures around places of worship across the country.
