NATO defense chiefs to meet for second day in Brussels

NATO's highest military authority will hold a second day of meetings Wednesday at the organization's headquarters in Brussels.

Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Güler and other NATO defense chiefs will address a range of topics on day two of the 180th Military Committee Conference.

"The second day will focus on Warfare Development, improving Common Funded Capability Delivery, the NATO-Georgia partnership with a particular focus on the progress of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, concluding with a broad discussion on the Western Balkans and the Kosovo Force Mission," NATO said in a statement.

The defense chiefs on Tuesday discussed NATO's current and future strategic challenges as well as the Alliance's military strategy and deterrence.

They also exchanged views on the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission to train, assist and advise Afghan security forces as well as the regional security situation.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Güler is expected to meet his U.S. counterpart Joseph Dunford in the wake of the U.S. decision to withdraw from Syria.

The Military Committee meets twice a year at NATO headquarters to discuss the Alliance's operations and missions and provide the North Atlantic Council with consensus-based military advice on how NATO can best meet global security challenges.
