Four-nation summit on war-torn Syria ends in Istanbul

The four-nation summit on Syria between Turkey, Russia, Germany and France ended in Istanbul on Saturday.
The summit, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Vahdettin Pavilion in the city's Üsküdar district and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and French President Emmanuel Macron lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
Staffan de Mistura, the UN special Syria envoy, is also present at the summit.
The main agenda of the summit was the consolidation of the cease-fire in Idlib and the joint efforts for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The developments on the ground, the latest situation in Idlib following the Sochi agreement and the political solution process carried on Astana and Geneva platforms were also discussed in the summit.
Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
