Ankara determines members of delegation to visit U.S.

Turkey's government has determined the members of a delegation to visit the United States to discuss an ongoing row between the two NATO allies, broadcaster CNN Turk reported on Tuesday.

CNN Turk earlier reported that the delegation would go to Washington in two days and that Turkey and the United States had reached a pre-agreement on certain topics.
A delegation led by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal is set to leave for the United States for talks, according to diplomatic sources Tuesday.

Önal and the delegation are expected to discuss the recent tensions between the two countries.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met his U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo in Singapore on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers' meeting.

Describing his meeting with Pompeo as "constructive," Çavuşoğlu said: "[...]Turkey always wishes to resolve these issues via diplomacy, dialogue and mutual understanding."

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert also said in a statement that Pompeo and Çavuşoğlu spoke about a number of issues and had a "constructive" conversation.

"They agreed to continue to try to resolve the issues between our two countries," Nauert said.

Turkey, U.S. are currently experiencing rocky relations following the U.S. imposing sanctions on Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül for not releasing American Pastor Andrew Craig Brunson, who faces terrorism charges in Turkey.
