Turkish firms active in Africa's construction sector

Turkish companies play an active role in Africa's construction sector.

The interior decoration, exterior trim, and sound system of the new congress center, which hosted the 31st Africa Union summit in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, were manufactured by Turkish companies.

"The construction of the center began in last September by the Mauritanian company BISTP. Later, the construction work was taken over by Turkish companies to finish it on time," one of the congress center managers Idy Hilal told Anadolu Agency.

"Turkish companies successfully completed the construction," he said.

Turkish companies also built the Tripoli Convention Center in Libya and other congress centers in Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda and Senegal.

A Turkish company Summa-Limak took over the construction of Blaise Diagne Airport which came into service in 2017 in Senegal.

The construction of the airport was undertaken firstly by a Saudi Arabian company in 2008, but it was completed by a Turkish company in eight months.

Turkish companies also built Kigali Convention Center, which hosted the 27th African Union Summit in 2016.

The 2,600-person capacity convention center is part of a 292-room five-star hotel occupies an important place in Rwanda but all of Africa.

Its construction started in 2009 by a Chinese company. Later it was taken over by Turkish companies and they delivered on time.

Meanwhile, the construction of the parliament in Cameroon is ongoing.
