6.2-magnitude earthquake rocks Pakistan

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked northern and northwestern parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan on Wednesday, a statement and local media reported. The earthquake's epicenter was along Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region with the depth of 97 kilometers, according to Pakistan's meteorological department.

The senate proceeding in the country was also halted due to strong tremors, Geo News, a local broadcaster, reported. At least six children were injured in northwestern Bannu district when the children jumped off the second floor of a school building. All children were shifted to a nearby hospital and their condition are out of danger, Dr Fida Khan, a doctor at District Headquarters, told Anadolu Agency.

This was the second time on Wednesday when earthquake jolted northern and northwestern Pakistan. Earlier in the morning, the earthquake jolted most parts of northwestern Pakistan. No loss of life and property were reported in the morning jolts.

Pakistan is located on the Eurasian Tectonic Plate, which is known for high levels of seismic activity.
