German supermarket chain Real on Monday announced it was pulling several items from its online shop that "glorified events that occurred under National Socialism."
The company said in a statement that replicas of Nazi uniforms, helmets, belts and hats, as well as cookbooks similar to those used by Nazi soldiers at the front, had been removed from its internet site.
It apologized to customers, saying that the items had been produced by a third party that uses Real as a platform to sell its goods.
Critics including prominent German comic Jan Boehmermann took to Twitter to call out the supermarket chain for its faux pas.
