Merkel party says wants talks with SPD on 'stable' govt

Chancellor Angela Merkel's party said Friday it wants to launch negotiations with the Social Democrats to renew their alliance and form a "stable government" for Germany.
"The CDU is ready to hold serious talks with the SPD to build a stable government," Klaus Schueler of the centre-right party said after a telephone conference of its top brass over Merkel's meeting late Thursday with Social Democrat chief Martin Schulz.
