The Turkish state development aid agency TIKA and Turkey's Health Ministry has trained five Senegalese pediatricians in an effort to help develop the country's health infrastructure.

Five pediatricians from an institute in Senegal's coastal Pikine region spent five weeks at Ankara's Dr. Sami Ulus Maternity, Child Health and Diseases Hospital getting training in various areas, said a Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) statement on Tuesday.

The West African doctors got a presentation from Turkish clinic heads and reviewed various up-to-date journals in their fields of interest.

They also paid a visit to TIKA's headquarters in the capital and learned about its work in the region and worldwide.

TIKA is currently providing assistance in 12 different African countries by providing technical help and carrying out hundreds of projects large and small.
