Nine people of Turkish origin were arrested on alleged links to far-left DHKP-C terror group in Athens on Tuesday morning in counterterrorism raids.

Greek anti-terrorist police raided three houses in the Kallithea and Neos Kosmos districts and found explosives and wires which could be attached to detonators.

Eight men and one woman have been arrested.

According to local media Tuesday's raids are linked to a 2014 case in which Turkish citizens were arrested in Greece, accused of being members of the far-left DHKP-C terrorist organization.

Sources from the Ministry of Civil Protection have said the investigation is linked to suspects accused of belonging to an armed foreign organization, not affiliated to Daesh.

Tuesday's operation comes only two weeks before the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visits Greece.
