Turkish jets destroy PKK hideouts in northern Iraq

Turkish jets destroyed weapon depots and hideouts used by PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, military said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the statement issued by Turkish General Staff, the warplanes carried out an airstrike in Gara region on Saturday and destroyed arms and ammunition depots used by terrorists.

The statement said that the air raids were part of ongoing operations targeting the terrorist organization in northern Iraq.

Airstrikes on PKK targets in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, where the terror group has its main base in the Qandil region near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when the PKK resumed its armed campaign.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
