Turkish students conclude voluntary work in Chad

A group of Turkish students concluded a renovation work of a mosque in the village of Chad's capital N'Djamena, as part of visits under an exchange program.

The 2017 Africa Experience Sharing Program provided an opportunity for 200 students to visit several African countries, including Tunisia, Libya, Somalia, Kenya, Algeria, Chad, Sudan, Ghana and Niger from Aug. 5 to 30.

The program is organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in cooperation with Turkish Airlines, Anadolu Agency and state broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television (TRT).

The volunteers took a tour in the capital before working in the mosque in the village of Dugi Naga, some 35 km away from the capital, where the villagers warmly welcomed them.

In an opening ceremony of the renovated mosque, the TIKA Deputy Coordinator in N'Djamena, Erhan Vargun, said the contribution by the volunteer students would help people of the two countries understand each other well.

The students also organized a dinner as part of the program, attended by Sedar Cengiz, Turkish ambassador to N'Djamena and N'Djamena University Rector Professor Malloum Sultan as well as many academics and students.

Students also took part in opening of a well in the village.

Volunteers participated in social, cultural and humanitarian activities and renovate schools, orphanages, libraries and places of worship as predetermined by TIKA and local NGOs in the visiting countries.

Students left the country on Monday.
