A mysterious early Sunday fire destroyed 200 homes in a village on the Island of Malamawi, in the southern province of Basilan.
The fire began around 10 a.m. (0200GMT) and was brought under control by the Bureau of Fire Protection two hours later, according to fire marshal Jasmine Tanog.
Firefighters and coast guard personnel had difficulty putting out the fire because the island does not have a fire truck.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire that has left homeless more than 1,000 mostly Muslims families.
