Pakistani senator hails Turkey’s efforts for refugees

A Pakistani Senator Thursday appreciated Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for 'helping Syrian refugees'.

"Other countries made commitments but they are not fulfilling their promises. They should support non-governmental organizations and government departments to provide services such as education," Senator Talha Mahmood told Anadolu Agency in Ankara.

As part of his official visits, Mahmood met a number of top officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak.

"We have sent six containers of humanitarian aid as part of our program here," Mahmood said, adding that he also visited southern provinces Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa to identify areas, where Pakistan can help Syrian refugees.

Mahmood emphasized on the capacity building of the refugees.

"I appreciate the Turkish government for what they do for our brothers and sisters. Not everything is about politics, the main thing is that they are human beings, so we need to help them," he said.

Mahmood said anyone, who wants to contribute to the cause, should contact Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, a government organization, which the senator said is 'doing well'.

He said Turkey-Pakistan Brotherhood Foundation is continuing making efforts for refugees, "We are making arrangements to provide food items and to build houses and a school for them."

He said a metro bus project in Islamabad completed in a very short span of time in cooperation with Turkey.
