The Iraqi army on Wednesday recaptured two more neighborhoods of western Mosul from the Daesh terrorist group, according to an Iraqi army commander.
In a televised statement, Abdulamir Yarallah, commander of an ongoing army campaign to retake the city, said Iraqi troops had successfully "liberated" the Al-Khatuniya and Al-Tawaleb neighborhoods of western Mosul's Old City district.
On Saturday, Federal Police Lieutenant-General Raed Jawdat also announced the recapture of the Old City's Al-Shifa district from Daesh militants.
The Iraqi military remains engaged in a wide-ranging campaign -- which began last October -- to recapture the entire city of Mosul.
In mid-2014, Daesh overran the city, which now represents the embattled terrorist group's last stronghold in northern Iraq.
