Tensions rise on Korean Peninsula

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula are running high following a series of provocations by North Korea. South Korean acting president, Hwang Kyo-Ahn, on thursday, visiting the country's special war-fare command in Icheon.
The aim of the visit, to check military readiness against the North's threats. Hwang was accompanied by South Korean Defense Minister, Han Min-Koo. Min-Koo warned of escalating provocations by the North and ordered the military to intensify monitoring operations.
North Korea will commemorate the 105th anniversary of the birth of state founder Kim Il Sung on saturday. In 2012, the North tried but failed to launch a long-range rocket carrying a satellite. Last year, it tested a newly developed intermediate-range missile.
With a U.S. aircraft carrier group on its way to the Korean theater, tensions are set to rise further. The fear is that the reclusive North Korea may conduct its sixth nuclear test or more missile launches in the near future.
