Robots in Singapore put together furniture

This isn't real time, but if it were it would take these robots 20 minutes to assemble an Ikea chair.

That's not that quick but it could offer hope to anyone who dreads sifting through the instructions that come with flat-pack furniture.

Assistant professor in the school of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Nanyang Technologıcal Universıty, Quang-Cuong Pham, said that: "Assembling an Ikea chair requires many different skills, from perception to motion planning - meaning how to find the motion of robot to reach an object."

Scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have spent three years programming the robots.

Their arms, grippers, sensors and 3D cameras - are able to handle even the smallest part.

But that's not enough.

Quang-Cuong Pham, also said that: "We would like to make the robot able to also find what to do by itself and not need to give the sequence of instruction to the robot and to do so we would need to use some kind of artificial intelligence, so we would like to collaborate with AI experts to also solve this high level reasoning."

Ikea says it's very positive about embracing new technology, as it's vision is to make everyday life easier.

These robots certainly seem to work in harmony while assembling.

Something a few human couples sometimes struggle with.
