Turkey marked on Tuesday the 1453 Ottoman conquest of Istanbul on its 565th anniversary with a grandiose ceremony with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The celebrations took place at the Golden Horn Congress Center under the auspicious of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Citing the importance of Istanbul for world history and Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Governor of Istanbul Vasip Şahin made the opening remarks at the 565th anniversary of Istanbul's conquest by the Ottoman Emperor Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
A splendid audio visual show depicting the conquest of Istanbul along with military marches played by an authentic Ottoman janissary band turned the night into a memorable event.
