In 3 days, regime attacks kill over 300 in Syria's Eastern Ghouta

Just outside Syria's capital Damascus. A moment for these children to forget the war.

Stuck underground in this make-shift bomb shelter, they're having a small party as they escape the hell above them.

And this is what they're hiding from. One of the most intense bombardments of the Syrian conflict, killing over 300 people in eastern Ghouta in the last three days.

Government forces backed by Russia are dropping bomb after bomb on this besieged rebel-held enclave on the outskirts of Damascus.

It's the last major area near the capital still under rebel control, it's also home to 400 hundred thousand people.

The civilians of eastern Ghouta know suffering - those left survived the big chemical weapons attack in 2013 and a brutal government siege that's lasted years.

Residents now tell Reuters they're just waiting for their turn to die.

Doctors sent us these pictures showing the damage to hospitals - they say at least six are out of service after being hit.

Those that are running are overwhelmed and the medical teams exhausted.

The UN says such attacks could be war crimes.

Denied by the Syrian government who say they don't target civilians, the Kremlin also denies they're responsible for civilian deaths.

The military claim they're targeting rebels and after the bombing there may be a ground campaign.

For the many children hiding underneath the city's streets, after eight years of fighting, they know little else.
