Türkiye reaffirms support for Libya’s unity, stability at international meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Thursday attended a meeting in New York titled "International Support for Peace, Unity and Prosperity in Libya," according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the sources said.

Officials from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, France, Italy, Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia also attended the meeting, where participants discussed the UN-led political process in Libya, economic prosperity and security.

Addressing the gathering, Fidan underscored the importance of Libya's stability and security for the wider region, emphasizing that Türkiye would continue to actively contribute to efforts in this regard.

Referring to his Aug. 11–12 visit to Libya and meetings in Tripoli and Benghazi, Fidan reiterated Türkiye's support for efforts to establish a unified government under its "One Libya" policy.

He stressed the importance of international partners engaging in dialogue with all parties and actors in Libya without discrimination and called for support for a political process led and owned by Libyans.

Fidan said Türkiye continued to provide capacity-building support aimed at unifying and strengthening Libya's economic and security institutions.

He added that Türkiye was ready to play a key role in areas where Libya needs support, including development and security, in the coming period.
