In a surprising event, the Russian diplomat Nikolay Kobrinets was discovered deceased in his hotel room in Istanbul. Kobrinets, who served as the head of the Department of European Cooperation in the Russian Federation, had been in the city to attend an ambassadors' meeting.
Kobrinets had checked into a hotel in the bustling Taksim district of Istanbul in preparation for the ambassadorial meeting. However, his absence at the meeting the following morning raised concerns among his peers. When attempts to reach him by contacting the hotel failed, hotel staff decided to inspect his room.
