Over 340 kg of heroin seized in eastern Turkey

Turkish police seized some 340 kilograms (750 pounds) of heroin on Friday in eastern Turkey.

Anti-drug police launched an operation against illegal drug trafficking in Van province, the local police department said in a statement.

Acting on a tip off, security forces stopped a vehicle on a highway connecting to the border province of Hakkari, searching the trunk to find 342.7 kg (755.5 pounds) of heroin hidden in separate packages. One suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.

According to police data, Turkish security forces have confiscated a total of 4 tons of heroin in Van since the beginning of this year.
