A PKK/PYD terrorist has been arrested while another surrendered to security forces along the Syrian border in southern Turkey, officials said Wednesday.

According to a written statement by Mardin Governor's Office, a PKK/PYD terrorist turned himself in to security forces in Nusaybin district of Mardin province at 8 a.m. local time [0500GMT] on Tuesday.

Security forces also arrested on Wednesday another terrorist in Gulbaga village in southern Kilis province after he crossed into Turkey from Afrin district of Aleppo province in Syria, according to a police source.

The terrorist was taken to a provincial security directorate for further process, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.

The PKK/PYD is the terrorist group's Syrian affiliate.
