At least six soldiers were wounded in a PKK attack in Turkey's eastern Hakkari province, according to an official statement on Thursday.

A Hakkari Governor's Office statement said PKK terrorists attacked the Zer Tepe and Kırmızıkaya military bases in the Çukurca district, injuring six soldiers.

The soldiers were taken to Hakkari State Hospital for treatment while an air-backed operation was launched to hunt down the terrorists.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
