Türkiye beat Latvia 3-0 in European Women’s Volleyball Championship opener

Türkiye's National Women's Volleyball Team defeated Latvia 3-0 on Friday in their opening Group A match of the Trendyol 2026 European Women's Volleyball Championship.
Playing at Istanbul's Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, Türkiye won the sets 25-17, 25-16, and 25-16.
Türkiye made a strong start to the match and took control of the opening set behind effective serving and attacks from Melissa Vargas, building a 19-12 lead before closing out the set 25-17.
The hosts carried their momentum into the second set with a 7-0 run. Latvia managed to narrow the Sultans of the Net's lead later in the set, but Türkiye regained control and sealed a 25-16 win with a middle attack from Zehra Güneş.
Türkiye maintained their dominance in the third set, taking it 25-16 to complete the straight-set victory.
The match clocked in at 77 minutes.
Türkiye is next set to take on Slovenia at 1600GMT on Sunday.
The championship tournament is set to last through Sept. 6.
Türkiye was the reigning champion.
