Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus has been banned for two matches and his team-mate Marius Wolf for three following their red cards in Saturday's 4-2 derby defeat to Schalke in the Bundesliga.

The suspensions mean the season is over for wing-back Wolf, while Reus misses matches against Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf but would be available against Borussia Moenchengladbach on the final day of the season on May 18.

The club has accepted the sanctions by the German football federation DFB sports panel.

Reus was dismissed in the 60th minute and Wolf five minutes later for similar tackles.

The DFB panel said Reus had been attempting to play the ball but that Wolf had no chance of reaching the ball in his lunge and therefore received an extra match ban.

Bayern Munich, who drew 1-1 at Nuremberg on Sunday, have a two-point lead over Dortmund at the top of the table.
