Israeli forces kill Fathi Khazem, 59, in West Bank city of Jenin

The Israeli army on Friday killed Fathi Khazem, a 59-year-old Palestinian man, who was shot inside his home in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian authorities and media said.

In a statement, the Palestinian Health Ministry said the General Authority of Civil Affairs had informed it about the death of Khazem after the latter succumbed to his injuries.

According to the ministry, the Israeli army has not released the slain man's his body.

Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli forces had raided Khazem's home in central Jenin before shooting him and leaving him injured.

Israeli forces then prevented an ambulance from reaching him, leaving him to bleed to death, it added.

Khazem, also known as Abu al-Raad, had served in the Palestinian National Security Forces (NSF) where he had reached the rank of colonel.

His name became widely known in April 2022 after his son, Raad, carried out an attack in Tel Aviv during which he was killed by Israeli forces.

Less than six months later, the Israeli army killed Khazem's other son, Abdul Rahman.

In May of 2022, Israeli forces arrested Hammam, another one of his sons. In September of the same year, they blew up the apartment where his late son Raad had lived in Jenin.

CHILD SHOT IN JENIN

In a separate incident, the Palestinian Red Crescent said Israeli forces had shot a 14-year-old child in the chest and back while conducting raids in the West Bank town of Zababdeh south of Jenin.

The injured child was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Red Crescent said.

Israeli forces also conducted raids in the Wadi Izz al-Din area and areas near the Arab American University housing compound, where they arrested at least one Palestinian resident, local sources said.

In Tubas northeast of Nablus, Israeli forces arrested Walid Muayyad Sawafteh, 22, after raiding his family's home, according to Wafa.

In the village of Kafr Qalil southeast of Nablus, Israeli forces reportedly arrested a Palestinian man and his son after raiding and ransacking their home.

In the village of Umm Salamuna south of Bethlehem, Israeli forces reportedly arrested Murad Jihad Hayyan, 26, after raiding and ransacking his family's home.

In Masafer Yatta south of Hebron (Al-Khalil), Israeli occupiers set fire to Palestinian construction equipment and wrote racist and genocidal slogans at the site, according to Ibrahim al-Zaarir, a local resident and the owner of the damaged equipment.

Al-Zaarir said six pieces of equipment-including excavators, bulldozers, and stone-cutting machines-were destroyed in the arson attack.

Israeli occupiers also torched olive trees in the village of Burqa, northwest of Ramallah, local sources told Anadolu.

In Khirbet Deir Shams south of Hebron (Al-Khalil), Israeli occupiers stole 170 sheep, vandalized two vehicles and assaulted women, children and an elderly man.

Mohammed Abu Tbeikh, the owner of the stolen sheep, told Anadolu that Israeli occupiers had attacked members of his family and beat him with stones, causing injuries to his head.

"The occupiers gathered the sheep and drove them away," he said. "When my family tried to recover them, they were attacked and threatened with weapons."

According to Abu Tbeikh, Israeli police and soldiers were present but did nothing to stop the occupiers' violent actions or the theft of the sheep, which, he said, constituted his family's main source of income.
