A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck northeast of Basra in southern Iraq Sunday evening, according to the country's meteorological and seismic monitoring authorities.
A seismic tremor measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale was recorded northeast of Basra, the Iraqi Authority for Meteorology and Seismology said, adding that it was felt by residents of the city and nearby areas.
Authorities have not announced any human casualties or material damage resulting from the quake as of yet.
