Iranian Revolutionary Guards step up threats to US

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran issued warnings against the United States in the context of the escalating conflict in Gaza. General Ramesan Sharif, a spokesperson for the IRGC, stated that supporters of Israel should be aware that there are concerns about possible repercussions for American forces involved in the conflict. He mentioned that "some hands that are not able to reach this regime can reach American forces that are controlling this war." Additionally, Sharif mentioned that all U.S. military bases and their flights would be closely monitored.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have issued further warnings against the United States as the war in Gaza escalates.

Supporters of Israel should be aware that "some hands that are not able to reach this regime can reach American forces that are controlling this war," the Iranian news agency ISNA quoted General Ramesan Sharif as saying on Saturday.

The IRGC spokesman made threats earlier during an interview with Lebanon's Al-Majadin TV channel, quoted by Iranian media.

All US military bases and their flights would be closely monitored, Sharif added.

The US flew airstrikes in eastern Syria on Friday in response to attacks by Iranian-backed militias.

Washington said the strikes were aimed at two facilities used by the IRGC and their allies. They were "narrowly tailored" in self-defence "intended solely to protect and defend US personnel in Iraq and Syria," according to a statement published on the US Department of Defense website.

The statement said the strikes were "separate and distinct from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas."

"The United States does not seek conflict and has no intention nor desire to engage in further hostilities, but these Iranian-backed attacks against US forces are unacceptable and must stop," the statement continued.

The Revolutionary Guards are Iran's elite armed forces, founded after the 1979 Islamic Revolution to protect the state and prevent a possible coup. IRGC foreign units also support Shiite militias in the region.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Israel has been Iran's declared enemy.
