An Israeli military court on Tuesday jailed a Palestinian teenager for life for allegedly stabbing a settler to death, according to local media.

Khalil Jabbareen, 17, was accused of killing Ari Fuld, who holds US citizenship, in Gush Etzion settlement in the southern West Bank in 2018.

The Ofer military court also granted a monetary award of NIS 1.25 million to the settler's family as part of the sentence, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.

In January, an Israeli court convicted Jabbareen of murder, as well as of three other attempted murders.

Palestinian rights groups estimate that over 5,500 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons located throughout Israel, including hundreds serving life-term sentences.
