New Russian-Turkish agreements on Idlib, Syria do not suggest a military operation in the war-ravished country, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
"These are steps aimed at clearing Idlib from terrorist groups that now control a significant part of this territory," Peskov told reporters.
Asked if it meant a military operation, Peskov said, "No, it does not."
His comment came after a trilateral presidential-level summit in Sochi, Russia. Iran, Russia and Turkey are trying to find a solution to the Syrian conflict.
Following a meeting last September between Turkish President Racep Tayyib Erdogan and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the two sides agreed to set up a demilitarized zone in Idlib, Syria.
Under the deal, opposition groups in Idlib are to remain in areas where they are already present, while Russia and Turkey conduct patrols to prevent renewed fighting.
