Fires in Los Angeles destroy 5,000+ structures, death toll rises

There are still active evacuation orders for around 180,000 people, and evacuation warnings for 200,000 people.
Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed that nearly 400 National Guards have been deployed to fight the fires, with duties ranging from infrastructure and traffic control to rescue operations.
He also confirmed the deaths of five people so far, though the death toll is expected to rise.
Fire Chief Anthony Marrone reported that the fire in Eaton has spread over 14,000 acres, with no containment so far.
Over 5,000 buildings have been affected.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and if arson is confirmed, the deaths will be investigated as homicides.
Curfews will be enforced in specific areas including Palisades and Eaton between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo advised evacuated residents to stay away from their homes until official announcements are made.
The fires may end up being among the costliest in U.S. history, with preliminary estimates of economic losses ranging between $52 billion and $57 billion.
