Built in 1997, the mosque serves as a religious, cultural, and educational center for the region's Muslim community, which is largely made up of Arab immigrants—particularly those from Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine—who settled in the area during the 20th century.
This mosque remains the largest in Colombia and is considered one of the most impressive mosques in Latin America.
