Türkiye to build domestic aircraft carrier

The Ministry of National Defense announced that, upon the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the ministry to have a domestic and national aircraft carrier, a decision has been made to start the design activities of the 'Design Project Office' of the Naval Forces Command.

In a written statement made by the ministry, it was announced that: 'Upon the directive of our President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to have a domestic and national aircraft carrier, a decision has been made to start the design activities by the Design Project Office of the Naval Forces Command.'

'In this context, it was stated that, on February 15, 2024, in order to examine the National Aircraft Carrier design, which was started by the Design Project Office Directorate and has made significant progress in the concept design, the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, along with President of Defense Industries Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, Rector of the National Defense University Prof. Dr. Erhan Afyoncu, CEO of ASELSAN Ahmet Akyol, CEO of HAVELSAN Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar, CEO of ROKETSAN Murat İkinci, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BAYKAR Technologies Selçuk Bayraktar visited the Design Project Office Directorate.'

During the visit, the superior design capabilities of the Design Project Office Directorate, which is based on high engineering and the life of the National Aircraft Carrier design activities, which are carried out with the tradition and experience of warship design, were examined on-site, crowned by our engineers' design and manufacture of the latest TCG Istanbul Frigate.'
