Olive tree cut in half by rift, separated by 15 meters after quakes
Giant fault crevices and pits in the Defne and Samandağ districts of Hatay, where the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes caused great destruction, were viewed from the air.

The greatest destruction was experienced in Hatay due to the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes. In addition to thousands of buildings in the city, agricultural areas were damaged due to the crevices.
Huge fault rifts formed in Çubukçu Neighborhood of Samandağı district. The crevices reaching a depth of meters damaged and swalloved olive trees.
A slit, about 3 meters deep and 2 meters wide, split an 80-year-old olive tree at the root.
The other half of the olive tree, which was divided into two, was seen to be separated by about 15 meters from each other.
It was observed that the width of the crevices reached 6 meters at some points and giant pits were formed.
A giant pit was also formed in the Çökek District of Defne district swallowing the olive trees. The crevices and pits in the region were also viewed from the air.
