According to a report by Greek-based Newshub, although Greece is investing in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles, it needs mass production and a coordinated program to transform these systems into weapons that can be used at the unit level. The fundamental question for Athens is whether the developed systems can reach operational capacity to be used in the field or remain as prototypes introduced at exhibitions.
According to Newshub, Greece remains largely dependent on foreign sources for critical components such as engines, batteries, sensors, and semiconductors. The limited domestic demand also makes it difficult to reduce production costs and create economies of scale. The report draws attention to the risk of resource dispersion in the current structure. It is stated that projects carried out for the Hellenic Navy also need a strong industrial partner to enter mass production.
According to the assessment of Greek-based Newshub, Türkiye has moved beyond the prototype development phase in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and reached industrial-scale production and export capacity. The report stated that Türkiye's defense exports reached 10 billion dollars in 2025. ASELSAN signing a 1.47 billion euro contract within the scope of the Iron Dome project is also presented as one of the indicators of Türkiye's capacity in integrated defense systems.
The export of Defence Technologies and National Engineering's (STM) Kargu and Alpagu unmanned aerial vehicles to a European NATO member country was also shown among the developments strengthening the presence of the Turkish defense industry in international markets.
