Algae in the lake, visited by many local and foreign tourists every year, produce a red-colored beta-carotene substance during the summer months when the temperature and salinity increase, protecting themselves from the harmful effects of the sun's rays.
During this period, halobacteria multiply excessively, causing the lake to turn pink or red in color.
A large part of Tuz Lake turns white during the summer months when the salt rises to the surface.
This transformation in the lake offers a visual feast to its visitors.
