Warning to pilgrims: Social media may harm the spirit of Hajj
In Mecca, as the days to Eid al-Adha approach, pilgrims spend their time performing Umrah, reading the Quran, doing Tawaf, and visiting holy sites.

It has been noticed that some pilgrims make video calls to their relatives or start livestreams on their social media accounts while performing Tawaf.
Mustafa Bilgiç, the Coordinator of Guidance and Fatwa in Medina, described Hajj as an important act of worship from beginning to end.
Bilgiç stated that in Hajj, what Allah commands in the Quran and what Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mentions in his Hadiths are expressed through actions.
He said, "Some of our brothers, especially while in the Rawdah and performing Tawaf around the Kaaba, can overuse their mobile phones. Because when we perform Tawaf around the Kaaba, we are in a state of worship similar to praying. Instead of making our loved ones back home witness our worship through our phones, let our actions there bear witness to our faith."
Bilgiç emphasized that pilgrims should not make video calls or livestream on social media during Tawaf, stating, "This is not right."
Bilgiç stated that it is more appropriate to recite prayers during Tawaf and visits, and he added:
"It is necessary to avoid actions that will damage the spirit of Hajj. If you turn the Rawdah and the Kaaba into platforms for taking photos and livestreaming, this will harm the spirit of Hajj. If you think that the pilgrimage is only about physical actions and do not understand the meaning behind them, you will be among those who merely go and return; the essence is to truly experience the pilgrimage."
