After the crescent moon was sighted and the announcement that the first day of Ramadan would be tomorrow, tens of thousands of Muslims gathered at the first qibla, Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Filling the Qibla Mosque, the Dome of the Rock Mosque, and the courtyard, the worshippers stood behind Al-Aqsa's Imam Hatib Sheikh Yusuf Abu Sineh for the Isha and Tarawih prayers.
Despite the ceasefire, Palestinians enter Ramadan with mixed emotions due to the situation in Gaza and Israel's attacks on the occupied West Bank.
Israel announced that, as it did last year, it would implement "security" restrictions at Al-Aqsa Mosque throughout Ramadan.
